Our reading instruction includes skillful, step by step instruction in the areas of comprehension, fluency, phonemic awareness, phonics, and vocabulary. Our children are involved in hands on activities related to the stories they hear and read and have an enriched understanding to connect to the story characters.

We help and guide our children to play allowing them to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Play is very important to healthy brain development. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them.

Painting is a way for children to do many important things: convey ideas, express emotion, use their senses, explore color, explore process and outcomes, and create pleasing works and experiences. We help our children form many connections and ideas of how the painting process works for them, as well as what they enjoy about it.

Involves understanding numbers, counting, solving number problems, measuring, sorting, noticing patterns, adding and subtracting numbers and so on. Our children learn through everyday play and activities by encouraging them to count fingers, toes and toys, recognize numbers on objects like clocks or remote controls and more.

What we do at Westhill

Letters and Sounds

Ensuring kids are able to recognize, name, and write all 26 letters of the alphabet, both uppercase and lowercase.

We teach kids to write simple CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words, such as hat, red, and dog. We also help them write short, simple sentences such as “The cat ran home.”

Drawing & Painting

We teach the kids on how to name, describe, draw and paint common shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle) and to identify, sort, and classify objects by color, size, and shape.

Numbers & Counting

We help kids learn to recognize, write, order, and count objects. We ensure they are able to add and subtract small numbers. This focus on addition and subtraction continues until they are able to count large numbers.

Learning through play

This program aims to support our children’s individual learning style, as well as providing an enriching environment where your child can build friendships, feel a sense of belonging, and freely express themselves.

Singing & Dancing

We help our children to become less clumsy and pay more attention through singing and dancing. Those struggling with language are able to express their feelings with immediacy through dance and movement.
